Die kapitelweise Inhaltsangabe (Chapter-Log) auf Deutsch veröffentlichte ich vor einigen Tagen. Da das Buch Angela von James Moloney jedoch meistens im Fach Englisch unterrichtet wird, hier noch einmal die englische Version der Zusammenfassung unterhalb.
Part 1: Brisbane
Schoolies – Chapter 1: Introduction of the book; introduction of the main-characters, Angela and Gracey have finished college and attend university; Gracey lives at Angela’s family. – The first weeks at university: Gracey joins the Indigenous Student Support Unit (short: „The Unit“), in which she meets the political activist Rhonda Haines for the first time; Angela meets Jarred (Clare’s brother) for the first time; Gracey spends a lot of time with other Aborigines.
UQ – Chapter 2: Angela makes a joke about Gracey, who is not amused about it. Angela goes with Jarred to the film festival, Gracey is at a party for Aborigines at the same time. Gracey would like to have her own room to do more with the Unit’s Aborigines; Angela is lonely as a result of the behavior of Gracey and tries to solve the problems in the friendship by trying to make friends with Rhonda, who ignores her. Angela feels uncomfortable in presence of other Aboriginal people.
Sorry Day – Chapter 3: Gracey gets a money problem and needs help from Angela in her job-search to look better in accompaniment of a white girl; Jarred and Angela spend much time together. Angela is angry with Gracey, because of not appearing at the „corner“. Angela’s mother tells Angela that she tried to talk with Gracey about Derek Campbell’s past, but Gracey rejected. Angela gets curious and wants to know what her mother intended to tell Gracey. She is told that her grandfather knows Derek Campbell since his early childhood.
Part 2: Sydney
Bankstown – Chapter 4: Angela and Gracey go to an event. They meet Rhonda with her mother, who tries to talk with Angela about the Stolen Generation. Gracey is not happy about the talked and so presents her own opinion, the view of Derek; Angela uses her mother’s arguments to discuss. Gracey and Angela do not talk to each other for a long time. – Vacation: Angela, Gracey and Jarred go to Sydney, taking part in the University Games. The dispute between the young women does not come to an end, however Angela decides to stay at her grandfather. Angela stays in touch with her great love Jarred, and the friendship with Gracey ends.

The Race – Chapter 5: Jarred tries to motivate Gracey to take part in the University Games for attending a university of sports. Later, he has a discussion with Angela on the various sides of Gracey. Angela decides to talk to her grandfather about the Stolen Generation. A few days after, Angela clears the air with Gracey; Clarifying by both reiterating their points of view. The result of the conversation is Gracey’s decision to stay with her relatives, the Aborigines.
The Gubba Man – Chapter 6: Angela talks with her grandmother about Gracey. Angela gets to know that her grandfather was one of the „kidnappers“ of children, the „Gubba men“. She is shocked when she realizes that she is not better than all the other whites. She notes that Gracey was right all the time. Angela can understand that Gracey, as a „Murri“, went to live with her relatives, but she is ashamed of the friendship having broken due to such disagreements.
